Lauren's Story

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." 1 Peter 4:10

The WellHouse is blessed with volunteers and supporters who give of themselves abundantly. Over the last few months, however, one volunteer gave of herself and her talents over and above anything we could imagine.

If you have bought one of the beautiful bracelets our residents have made, you are the recipient of a labor of love. We have been asked for years to have hand-made items to sell and God opened that door in January 2017.

What seemed like a huge endeavor - to teach six residents how to make jewelry - was welcomed with a huge smile and a sense of compassion. Lauren Nickles never waivered in her desire to not only teach jewelry-making but to minister to these amazing survivors.

While Lauren's own fight against cancer waged on, she continued to show our residents her strength and her will to be more than just a statistic. Even during some of her roughest days, Lauren came to The WellHouse and guided these ladies towards a legacy that will undoubtedly endure.

There was tons of laughter, some tears and lots of prayers lifted up during this time. Although Lauren passed away just a few weeks ago, the residents of The WellHouse continue to exude what she taught them - a fighting spirit, a gracious heart and steadfast determination.

Thank you to Lauren and her entire family for providing a creative outlet and priceless gift to the residents and staff of The WellHouse. She will be greatly missed.
